Exporting Data From SpyView or Gauss VIP DocManager
So the AS/400 is on it’s way out ?
Here is what you need to know…. In as few words as possible… You will have questions, please do get in touch to discuss in greater detail.
Realities to accept :
- If the AS/400 (iSeries) is going, then you have to move the archive of document data somewhere.
- You will need a replacement system. DMS4U can export data, formatted to suit your choice of new system.
Points to ponder :
- Whatever system you choose, it will require that the data to be transferred is exported and then re-imported into the new system. There is never a single step solution.
- Documents and data held within the AS/400 are held in EDCIDIC formats with documents massed into large data elements rather than individual files. Exporting the data is a very time consuming process and requires specific skills and specialist tools. It will cost money and there is no way around that.
- Transferring your system to the cloud using the DMS4U Cloud Service is a good choice where the archive has been frozen and you need to provide access to existing documents for a specific number of years.
Next Steps :
The first step of the migration process is to talk to your business. You will need to chart all of the document types stored. For each document class confirm :
- Will they continue to be captured?
- When were they last captured?
- Do the existing documents need to be migrated? e.g. Spooled joblogs probably won’t but sales invoices certainly will.
- What is the required retention period for this class. For ever? 7 years?
- What format documents are held in each class?
- Based on the retention requirements, how many documents of this class within that date range are held in the system?
How DMS4U can help :
- We’ve done this before, many times. Our services can be bought directly, or through OpenText.
- The first step is always a system audit. This is a fixed price service to analyse and quantify the work involved and how that affects the various options.
- DMS4U perform migrations off-site whenever possible, allowing access to multiple export systems and minimising disruption to your business.
- We can help you cut through the information and mis-information with regards to alternate options.
- We make the difficult, easy.
